Supporting non-birthing employees through their journey into parenthood

Description

Until recently, fathers and non-birthing partners received little more than two weeks parental leave support before returning to work as if nothing had changed. We know that working dads want to take time to care for their children and feel successful in the workplace. But only 1-3% of men are taking the opportunity to share parental leave.

As non-traditional structures become more normalised, adoption and surrogacy now regularly feature in family planning, especially for LGBTQ+ couples. However, legal rights and company policies are struggling to adapt quickly enough, with little to no research on what’s needed to counteract the existing cultural stigma.

These highly complex, emotional experiences remain widely unrecognised. They can cause chronic stress for working parents, conflict in relationships and risk employee retention. For businesses who want diversity in leadership, we believe managers are crucial allies for this life-changing transition into parenthood, for fathers and for everyone. This module is here to help.
