Healthy Dialogue or Cancel Culture?
With Rox and Adé Adeniji
Cancel culture is a modern form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles – whether it be online, on social media, or in person. Those subject to this ostracism are said to have been “cancelled”.
In this dialogue, Rox and Adé will explore the impact of cancel culture. Does it create systemic change and eradicate unpopular and unjust behaviour? Or does it limit constructive dialogue that could create true sustainable change. We will speak to the fear of engaging in conversation - and the barriers in the way of healthy dialogue.
What is the impact of shutting down? How can we enter conversations with the armour off, willing to learn and grow? And whose responsibility is this? We will acknowledge polarising topics and suggest tools we can use to keep the conversation going about them, including boundaries, the 3 levels of listening, empathy and self compassion.
