Antony Walker
Born prematurely with diplegic Cerebral Palsy, the paradigm of Antony’s life was immediately and entirely concerned with the medical and the corporeal. Yet — almost at once, it seems — that focus widened to encompass continual work with charities - campaigning to raise awareness for both the organisation and the cause. It is this inherent duality, knowing first-hand the cause and effect of the Third Sector, that kindled what would become one of his irrevocable aspirations in life: to further advocate for fellow disabled people, and make a significant change for the better.
It was at university, alongside working for a number of disability-related charitable organisations, that Antony's ambitions and aims were truly crystallised. While attaining an honours degree in Italian and Marketing, followed by an MSc in ‘Applied Educational and Social Research’, he undertook fundamental research projects that ignited his primary interest: the attitudes held by and about disabled people, and the impact these attitudes have on our lives. Bolstered by keen analytical skill and intrinsic creativity, each of these facets informed his involvement with charities such as Cerebral Palsy Scotland, Scope UK, and Capability Scotland. Notwithstanding, it is this very combination of professional, academic, and personal experience that he brings to The Disability Taskforce.
“It is an unquestionable fact that The Disability Taskforce is equal parts noble and necessary, and I am sincerely proud to be a part of such an exceptional team.”
