Amalie & Rod Baber
Amalie is a young girl with 4-Limb Cerebral Palsy, Complex Neuro-disability and a Visual Impairment. As such, she requires 24/7 adult supervision from a dedicated care team, that includes her dad, Rod.
After 14 years of trying to improve Amalie’s way of life with both proven and innovative forms of therapy, Rod secured a place for her on the World’s first STEM therapy programme for children.
With a background in professional mountaineering, Rod now provides instructor rescue training for multinational educational organisations, the armed forces, public services, youth groups and the outdoor leisure industry. With his daughter’s experience in mind, he aims to inspire individuals and organisations through talks and workshops to make those small but essential changes to improve accessibility and inclusion.

Rod strives to be Amalie’s vocal ambassador, harnessing his experience on the mountains and from within Paediatric Intensive Care Units to speak frankly about parenting a disabled child with complex needs in world full of barriers and stigma.
It is far easier to climb Everest than raise a disabled child. But I believe with small changes we can make a big difference to improve accessibility and Quality Of Life for families with disabled children - that’s why I wanted to join The Disability Taskforce.
