The need for braver leadership is greater than ever. In our countries, in our communities and in our organisations. Who can fail to be impressed by the empathetic response of Jacinda Ardern? The clarity and belief of Greta Thunberg? They are beacons of light in a struggling world. We know brave leadership when we see it. (And we also know the frustration of seeing our leaders closer to home fail to step up to the plate). But we struggle to articulate what brave leadership actually consists of. And have a tendency to believe it is something innate rather than learnt. Brené Brown's* most recent research was conducted with leaders, changemakers, and culture shifters. The findings not only break down what brave leadership is, but also confirms that it is 100% teachable and skills-based. The resulting curriculum provides practical teachings for courageous leadership to be brought into organisations. Do you want to be a more courageous leader? Do you need braver leaders in your organisation? Our two day skills-based curriculum, based on this research is called Dare to Lead™ and is taking place on June 12th and 13th in London. It is clear to us that people are opting out of vital conversations about diversity and inclusivity because of the fear of looking wrong, saying something wrong, or being wrong. Choosing our own comfort over hard conversations is the epitome of privilege, and it corrodes trust and moves us away from meaningful and lasting change. We have been having some hard conversations with many of our clients about how they are addressing the lack of Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) talent represented at senior level. The industry is certain not to reach the IPA's 2020 targets. These conversations have resulted in us providing more opportunities to support and accelerate the development of high potential BAME talent starting on June 11th, with our cross industry Rising Stars programme. Much like female acceleration programmes of the last decade, this programme adopts a strengths based approach to supporting self identified minority talent in your organisation.
